For over 30 years, SEC Institute (SECI), a division of Practising Law Institute (PLI), has been a leader in SEC compliance education, conducting programs throughout the country with a focus on SEC reporting and FASB standards. SECI’s goal is to help reporting professionals and public companies in the United States and abroad do the best possible job of meeting the filing requirements of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. PLI acquired the programming assets of SECI in January 2014.


SECI is searching for an experienced, dynamic professional to fill the role of Associate Director, SEC Institute.  This position is currently part-time but has the potential to expand to a full-time role. The Associate Director must hold a CPA certificate and have significant background in SEC reporting and GAAP accounting.  SECI’s client base includes CFOs, controllers and their staff, internal auditors, partners of public accounting firms and their staff, as well as attorneys and in-house counsel specializing in SEC reporting.  Participants of our conferences and workshops come from companies ranging from Fortune 500 to small and mid-cap companies, including audit and law firms.


This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about providing high quality, current and engaging education to the SEC reporting community and related professionals.




  • Develop and co-chair conferences on current and emerging SEC reporting and accounting topics relevant to SEC reporting professionals. SECI’s current conference schedule includes:
  • Three mid-year conferences (May/June in Dallas, New York and San Francisco)
  • September conference focused on mid and small cap companies in Las Vegas
  • Three annual conferences (November/December in Dallas, New York and San Francisco)

Each conference is a two-day event and the Associate Director must be willing to travel to each of the conference locations. Planning for each of these conferences would be handled remotely with occasional visits to PLI’s NYC office.


  • Identify opportunities for new conferences as appropriate.
  • Develop conference agendas by identifying hot topics and current issues at the SEC, FASB & PCAOB and by reviewing past attendee feedback for programming suggestions.
  • A major focus of our programming is to be “ever current” and we strive to bring our participants the information they need to effectively deal with new developments and challenges in their SEC reporting.
  • Identify co-chairs and speakers to participate at the conferences.
  • Develop conference materials and work with speakers on developing PowerPoint Presentations.
  • Serve as a resource to the SECI department for program suggestions and questions.
  • Participate in one-hour audio briefings as requested.


Requisite Experience and Qualifications


  • CPA with a minimum of 10 years demonstrated expertise, technical knowledge and understanding of SEC reporting and GAAP accounting.
  • Up-to-date with recent SEC, FASB and PCAOB developments and regulations and has experience from public company accounting, auditing, SEC or industry.
  • Excellent communication skills needed to translate technical and complex information to participants at all levels of experience, as well as the ability to discuss subjective and gray areas using practical examples.
  • A network of industry and SEC professionals for speaker invitations is a plus.
  • Experience in the SEC’s Division of Corporation Finance or Office of the Chief Accountant is an advantage.
