Overview

Practising Law Institute (“PLI”), an innovative leader in legal education programs and services, is searching for an experienced, dynamic professional to fill the full-time role of Director, Programs. This position requires a J.D., significant familiarity with continuing legal education, and a minimum of 5 years in management and operations. PLI’s client base includes a large array of prestigious law firms, corporations and government agencies.

SUMMARY

The Director is responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of Program Attorneys and staff in both New York and San Francisco. The Director will meet with his/her direct reports on a regular basis and serve as their main point of contact as they plan and execute PLI programs. The Director will also maintain a slate of programs which he/she is responsible for planning and executing each year.

 

The Director reports to the Vice President, Programs, who is a member of the senior management team.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Director, Programs will oversee attorneys and program content in the Programs Department.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as the main point person for the Program Attorneys regarding research and design of programs
  • Conduct regularly scheduled meetings with direct reports to assess performance throughout the year
  • Oversee and participate in the successful creation and execution of live and webcast programs, and One-hour online audio briefings
  • Assist in assessment and prioritization of new program ideas
  • Assist in the distribution, assignment and re-assignment of programs, as needed
  • Research and maintain current knowledge of legal developments to ensure that existing and new programs address relevant topics, attract a large number of program participants and meet revenue goals
  • Work directly with other key departments at PLI as appropriate, including Marketing, Sales, CLE, IT, Finance and HR
  • Update department processes and procedures as necessary
  • Other projects, as assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of 6 to 8 years of experience in continuing legal education or other continuing professional education
  • J.D. and admittance to a U.S. state bar is required
  • Management experience with the proven ability to oversee and mentor a large team
  • Experience motivating and developing employees
  • Proactive approach to maintaining knowledge of current legal developments
  • Periodic travel may be required
  • Full-time position
