Practising Law Institute (“PLI”), an innovative leader in legal education programs and services, is searching for a technology professional to fill the temporary role of Front-End Developer.  This position requires a Bachelor’s degree as well as the ability to implement visual elements that customers will see and interact with on the PLI website. PLI’s client base includes a large array of prestigious law firms, corporations and government agencies. 


This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys blending the art of design with the art of programming. This temporary role is expected to last approximately 6 months.




PLI is building a new, redesigned website. We are looking for a strong front-end developer to join us on a temporary basis to anchor our interface development. The temporary developer will develop the structure of front-end code using JavaScript, HTML, React, Bootstrap and CSS along with other front-end development tools/frameworks.


During this temporary assignment, the developer will be involved in all aspects of the agile software development cycle and will work with architects, technical leads, UX designers, visual designers, business analysts and business stakeholders on assigned projects from concept through launch. Additionally, the developer will mentor a junior front-end developer.


  • Understand UI/UX from wireframes and visual UI specs; develop front-end code using programming languages such as JavaScript, HTML, Angular, React, Bootstrap and CSS.
  • Write JavaScript code that calls server-side APIs with JSON.
  • Coordinate front-end work across teams to build a seamless front-end look and feel.
  • In collaboration with our visual web designer, contribute to and maintain a front-end code pattern library.
  • Build responsive web pages for different devices (desktop, tablet, mobile, etc.).
  • Work with DevOps to ensure continuous delivery of the software in the CI/CD process.
  • Collaborate with team to define user stories and provide solutions.
  • Communicate thoughts and constructive feedback on designs and implementations in a friendly and encouraging way.
  • Keeps current on market trends and other changes in technology.
  • Guide and mentor junior staff to establish best practices of front-end design.
  • Other duties, as assigned.



  • Bachelor’s degree with Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or Design focus required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional, working experience implementing:
    • HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript or TypeScript (we use typescript) or CoffeeScript
    • Experience in one or more of the following: Bootstrap, AngularJS, React
    • LESS or SASS or other CSS extensions
    • Responsive design
  • Previous experience working on a website redesign from concept through launch is required.
  • Ability to look at a UX wireframes and/or UI mockups and implement them using JavaScript, HTML, Angular, React, Bootstrap and CSS, and other front-end development tools/frameworks to support user needs and business requirements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong sense of visual aesthetics.
  • A portfolio of work samples, preferably online, showing your best front-end solutions as well as best practices in responsive and adaptive design across device environments is required.
  • Strong knowledge of software development lifecycles and software development standard best practices (code reviews, unit testing etc.).
  • Understanding of source code control (GIT) and CI/CD processes.
  • Experience with browser differences and limitations and client-side performance.
  • Able to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Experience with the following technology is a plus:
    • CMS (We use EPiServer)
    • NET MVC, C#, Java, SQL
    • Visual design and/or user experience design
